hey
been trying to meet you
hey
must be a devil between us
or whores in my head
whores at my door
whores in my bed
but hey
where
have you
been
if you go i will surely die
we're chained
uh
said the man to the lady
uh
said the lady to the man she adored
and the whores like a choir
go uh all night
and mary ain't you tired of this
uh
is
the
sound
that the mother makes when the baby breaks
we're chained
The Pixies, "Hey", off the album "Doolittle"
The Pixies, are a really fun band. Their five albums (Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Bossanova, Doolittle, Trompe le Monde and the collection Death to the Pixies) contain some of the craziest music produced.
The Pixies mix together the grungy guitar distortion, with a Spanish overtone and beautiful underlying melodies. The beauty is that they don't just rip at the guitar, under the curtain of noise there is always a beautiful melodic line (true they do sometimes just rip away, but then, everybody's got to let loose now and again).
I don't really have a favourite song or album - I love the "popular" songs - "Hey" from Doolittle and "Where is my mind" from Surfer Rosa, but my favourite album is surely Doolittle.
Starting off with "Debaser", "Tame" and the great, slinky "Wave of Mutiliation" the album starts off fast and loud, but then it continues with the amazing "Bleed",and "Here comes your man", before plunging in to the more complex part of the album with "Hey", "Gouge Away" and "Silver" - it is a beautiful, beautiful album!
You should probably also take a look at as many of the Pixies' singles you can get - they contain lots of stuff that was only released on them - "into the white" for instance is a wonderful piece that only appeared on the singles.
Finally - try the links out - they're cute!
