I first heard the Smashing Pumpkins when Siamese Dream came out. Of course I loved the new style they created. If you haven't heard them yet, start with Siamese - preferably with the song "Today" (my favourite).
Then I bought Gish, which I turn to when I feel like a rawer version of the Pumpkins style but I stil think that Pisces Iscariot is the best Smashing Pupkins album.
Mellon Collie on the other hand I think is already overdoing it. Maybe I still need to hear it a little more, but I feel the Pumpkins have reused their formula once too many. When it's hard to tell which song is which...
